Original Third Reich Government Official’s Dagger by Carl Eickhorn – M39 "Dolch für Staatsbeamte"

This is a rare and elegant example of the Third Reich Government Official’s Dagger, produced by the renowned firm Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Approximately one in four of these daggers were manufactured by Eickhorn, who unlike other makers such as Puma and Pack (both even rarer), cast their own components. This in-house manufacturing process resulted in superior quality and craftsmanship, making Eickhorn examples the most desirable among collectors.

Eickhorn’s version of the Government Official's dagger is considered the most graceful and well-crafted of all variants, featuring a more pronounced upsweep in the crossguard wings and exceptional attention to detail. It is estimated that only 20% of all Government Official daggers were produced by this prestigious maker.

Blade: The blade is in very good condition, with a crisp, acid-etched “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark, though the darkening in the etching has largely faded. The original crossgrain remains visible from hilt to tip. The blade has a perfect tip and solid fit, though some gray spotting, surface scratches, and age toning are present throughout—typical for a piece of this age. The original leather buffer pad is intact and in place.

Scabbard: The steel-based, nickel-silver plated scabbard is also in very good condition with a small dent near the bottom, which is typical for daggers. The scabbard does showcase beautifully detailed random pebbling on the panels and the classic oak leaf and acorn bands. Both throat screws are present and unturned, and the scabbard fits snugly against the hilt.

Hilt: The hilt features all nickel-silver based and plated components, with matching plating and tone throughout. The crossguard displays a striking German eagle with outstretched wings, clutching a wreathed swastika—a truly regal design. The eagle-head pommel is equally detailed and sharp in its features.

The grip consists of the scarcer yellow-toned striated grip plates, both of which are tight-fitting and free of cracks or damage. All exterior components match well in finish and patina, though it's worth noting the dagger was polished prior to acquisition, removing much of the original age patina.

Despite the prior polishing, this dagger remains a stunning example of Eickhorn's masterful craftsmanship. It is a collector-grade piece that displays beautifully and represents one of the most elegant dagger patterns produced during the Third Reich. A fine investment for the advanced collector.
