Description

Original German WWII Heer Dagger With Post War Etched Blade- Presenting an intriguing piece of history, this German Heer Dagger appears to have originally been an unmarked WKC (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.) production. At some point after World War II, it underwent a modification in which a double etch was added to the blade, complete with the manufactured logo of Carl Eickhorn. The blade now features the inscription "Unserem Kameraden Der Regimentostab" (Our comrade, the Regiment staff) with a motif on each side and a separate motif on the other side of the blade.
The hilt fittings of this dagger are in remarkable condition, boasting fine silvering without any pitting or noticeable flaws. The pommel exhibits minimal wear around the edges, and the standing oak leaves are exceptionally well-preserved. The cross guard showcases the characteristic "hatchet beak" eagle head, maintaining crisp details throughout the bird's breast, wing feathering, wreath, and swastika. The ferrule's patina complements the other fittings harmoniously. The grip, a deep orange hue, adds a touch of vibrancy to the piece.
The scabbard remains straight and retains good pebbling, but some age-related wear is visible along the edges. The bands are in good condition, and the throat is secured by a single screw on the backside.
It's worth noting that the modification, transforming this dagger into a double etched piece with the Carl Eickhorn logo, departs from its original state as an unmarked WKC Army dagger. Typically, completely original double etched Heer daggers can command prices ranging from $3,000 to $3,500. Nevertheless, this dagger presents an opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire a visually appealing display piece at a fraction of the price.
In conclusion, this Heer Dagger, though altered from its original state, offers a unique and intriguing addition to any collection. Its historical value, coupled with its visual appeal, makes it an excellent choice for those interested in WWII militaria.
