Original German WWII Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner Badge By SchwerinThis is an original Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner Badge (Kriegsabzeichen für Blockadebrecher), instituted in April 1941 and awarded to crews of merchant and naval vessels that successfully ran Allied blockades.
Much of the original finish has been worn off the brass made badge, particularly on the obverse, with attractive toning and wear consistent with age and service. The reverse retains some of its silver finish with its original pin-back assembly, including hinge, pin, and catch, all intact and functional. Some slight corrosion and could be removed, or just left alone.
The badge is clearly maker marked "FEC. OTTO PLACZEK BERLIN AUSF. SCHWERIN BERLIN." This indicates original design of the badge by Otto Placzek (designer) with manufacture by Schwerin Berlin, one of the most well-known and desirable makers of Kriegsmarine awards.
Condition is good overall, showing honest wear, surface oxidation, and patina to the reverse.
