Original German WWII Heer Soldbuch- Franz Kadoff’s WWII German Soldbuch provides a detailed glimpse into his military service in the Heer (Army). Born in 1905 in Austria, Kadoff's personal details are outlined on page 2 of the Soldbuch, including his full name, date of birth, and other personal identifiers. Notably, the bottom of this page indicates that his Soldbuch might have been issued in 1939, suggesting that he carried this essential document throughout the entire duration of the war.
Kadoff served as a truck driver, and notably, he never left Germany during his military service. He was assigned to several units, beginning with the 1st Company of the Motor Vehicle Training Battalion 18. Later, he was transferred to the Army Motor Vehicle Depot 638, where he initially served in the general motor vehicle depot and was eventually moved to the repair section, utilizing his skills as a mechanic.
Pages 12 and 13 of the Soldbuch detail Kadoff's health issues, including a case of tonsillitis and a non-combat-related problem with his neck, possibly a cyst, rash, or similar condition. These entries provide a personal insight into his physical condition during his time in the Heer.
Condition of the Soldbuch: The pages of Franz Kadoff's Soldbuch has separated from the cover, which the cover does have a period paper binding repair. A photograph of Kadoff in uniform is stapled to the back of the front cover, with a military ink stamp on the top left corner of the photo. The two pages titled "Nachweis über Bekleidungs- und Ausrüstungsstücke" (Proof of Clothing and Equipment) appear to be re-issued and were glued over the original pages in the book. Despite the cover being loose and stains on the cover, the Soldbuch is still in very good condition overall.
