Original 2nd Pattern Tropical Heer Pith Helmet (Tropenhelm) in Olive/Tan Size 58 Dated 1942
This is an original German 2nd Pattern Tropical Pith Helmet (Tropenhelm), constructed of pressed olive wool felt covering and complete with National Tri-Color shield and Heer Eagle insignia that is well-preserved.
The felt covering shows well with some surface nap. The leather edge trim around the brim exhibits age-related cracking and flaking (photos 9 & 10). The original leather chinstrap is present with its correct buckle and hardware; shows expected age and light surface wear, but in very good to excellent condition. The vent cap is present and intact.
The interior features the correct red felt lining with ventilated cork body beneath. The leather sweatband is present and appears to be in good shape. The underside of the sweatband is clearly stamped “58 – 1942” indicating size 58 with 1942 production. The interior shows honest age with little to no use.
It's possible the helmet is Unissued since there are so few flaws and just showing year of storage. Overall this is a solid and complete pith helmet.
