Original German WWII Heer/Waffen SS M31 Breadbag Mid War Dated 1942 (Two-Tone Construction)
This is an original German WWII M31 breadbag, as issued to Heer and Waffen SS troops. This example represents a desirable mid-war production piece, featuring two-tone fabric construction, reflecting wartime material variations and evolving manufacturing practices.
The breadbag is constructed of olive-green canvas with contrasting tones between the body and flap, a characteristic commonly seen in mid-war production. The overall configuration remains textbook, with three upper belt attachment straps, aluminum/steel hardware, and the correct D-rings for securing equipment such as the canteen and mess kit.
The center belt hook retains a faint maker marking along with a lightly stamped “42” date, confirming 1942 production. As typical with field-used examples, the marking is subdued from age and wear but remains partially visible.
Condition is very good overall. The canvas remains strong and serviceable, showing honest field use with light staining and age-related discoloration. All of the stitching remains solid throughout. The leather reinforcement tabs at the D-rings show some minor wear consistent with age, but remain secure. The some hardware shows light oxidation but is fully functional.
A solid and honest mid-war breadbag, ideal for display, field gear setups, or completing a combat mannequin with correct 1942-dated equipment.
