An original German WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class, complete with its correct period ribbon and marked “44” for the maker Jakob Bengel.
This example features the correct three-piece construction with a magnetic iron core and silver-finished frame. The obverse displays a crisp central swastika with the date “1939”. The iron core shows honest wear with noticeable loss of the original black paint on both obverse and reverse, with natural oxidation visible, consistent with age and wartime use.
The silver-finished frame exhibits even, natural tarnishing, particularly along the edges and beaded borders, with no signs of cleaning or polishing. The reverse correctly bears the date “1813” on the lower arm. The suspension ring is clearly stamped “44” and remains tight.
The medal is accompanied by its original WWII-period ribbon, showing light wear consistent with age.
A solid, untouched example of a wartime Iron Cross 2nd Class by a desirable maker.
