Original German WWII M24 Stick Grenade Dated 1940 & 1943 (Deactivated / Inert)

A very nice original example of a German WWII M24 stick grenade, featuring a desirable mismatched wartime combination with a 1940 dated head and a 1943 dated handle, a configuration commonly encountered due to field replacement and reassembly during service.

The grenade retains its original pine wooden handle, clearly letter-coded “evv” and stamped “43.” The wood shows honest age, handling wear, and scattered marks consistent with wartime use, while remaining solid and well-preserved overall. There is a hole made from a screw, which we removed. Does not take away the appearance of the grenade.

The steel grenade head is maker marked “564” and dated “1940,” with a visible Waffenamt acceptance stamp on the top. It is stenciled on the side of the head with white painted lettering “VOR GEBRAUCH SPRENGKAPSEL EINSETZEN”
(“Insert detonator before use”). It retains approximately 85% of its original dark field gray factory finish, with scattered oxidation and small areas of surface rust, all consistent with age and storage.

The handle base is fitted with its correct zinc screw cap, which unscrews as intended, revealing the internal spring assembly for the pull cord mechanism. The original pull cord and porcelain ball are no longer present, as commonly seen.

Overall, this is a very attractive and honest example showing typical period wear, with a strong display presence. A classic and iconic piece of German WWII ordnance, ideal for any advanced collection. In very good to excellent condition.
