Original German WWII M38 Gasmask Canister Set With Rubberized Gasmask & FE41 Filter
This is an original German WWII M38 gasmask canister set, complete with its rubberized gasmask, FE41 filter, and accessories.
The ribbed steel canister retains a black exterior finish, which appears to be a post-war overpaint applied over the original field-gray. The surface shows scattered age wear, oxidation, and handling marks, but remains structurally solid with no major dents. The canister is fitted with its original lid, latch, and long carry strap. The strap shows age, staining, and fraying in areas, and the belt hook leather is present but stiff with wear.
The interior retains much of its original fieldgray paint and is marked “ago” and dated 1943. There is visible rust and corrosion to the inner base and liner, consistent with long-term storage. The internal spring for the cleaning/lens cloth is present. Also included inside is an original Hautentgiftungsmittel (gas attack salve) container with worn but legible label.
Housed inside is a late-war rubberized gasmask, size “2.” The mask remains in solid condition with good overall shape, though the rubber has stiffened with age. It retains its original straps, along with correct metal hardware. The outlet/snorkel section is marked “flr” and dated 1942.
The set is completed by an original FE41 filter, finished in fieldgray paint. It threads correctly to the mask and shows light to moderate age and storage wear, with no signs of heavy field use.
Overall, this is a solid, honest late-war gasmask set with a good untouched look. The post-war overpaint, interior corrosion, and strap wear are all clearly visible, but the set remains complete, matching, and displays well.
