Original German WWII Pre-War .7 Liter M31 Canteen (No Cup) HRE 37
This is an original pre-war German WWII M31 .7 liter canteen, produced in 1937, representing early quality manufacture prior to wartime material simplification. The set is complete minus the cup.
The canteen retains its original black leather strap assembly, which remains supple and in very good condition. There is some minor age-related cracking and wear, but the leather is still strong and fully functional. The strap is faintly marked “HRE 37.” It is worth noting that the leather strap appears to have been improperly attached during factory assembly, an interesting production flaw that adds character to the piece.
The felt cover is in excellent condition, showing only light handling wear. It is clearly marked “HRE 37,” and all snaps are present and fully functional.
The aluminum flask is also marked “HRE 37” and shows honest use, with light surface wear consistent with age. The screw cap is marked “HRE 37” and retains its original rubber gasket, though it has begun to deteriorate from age.
Overall, this is a solid pre-war example with matching maker and date throughout. Despite the missing cup, it remains a desirable early M31 canteen set with a unique factory assembly quirk, in very good overall condition.
