Original German WWII SS Officer’s Sword/Degen Portepee (Sword Knot)
This is an original German WWII SS officer’s sword portepee (sword knot), a distinctive accessory worn on SS officer swords as a symbol of rank.
Constructed of silver/gray aluminum bullion with black accent striping, the portepee features a finely woven strap and a tightly wrapped knot (acorn) typical of SS officer examples. The strap retains its original form and structure, with the woven pattern still clearly visible throughout. A woven slide is at the strap's end, and below it is the slightly rounded stem which features the black circled SS runes on each side.
The knot itself is nicely preserved, showing tight weaving and excellent overall integrity.
Condition is very good to excellent with light age and handling wear. There is some very minor oxidation and toning to the aluminum wire, along with small areas of wear consistent with period use. The portepee remains supple and displays very well.
Overall, this is a desirable and original SS officer’s portepee, ideal for completing or upgrading a period sword or for display.
