Original German WWII Matching k98 Bayonet Dated 1942 By E. & F. Horster (asw)
This is an original German K98 bayonet, manufactured by E. & F. Horster, Solingen, dated 1942. Both the bayonet and scabbard have matching serial numbers making this a desirable and complete example.
Blade:
The blade retains a good portion of its original dark wartime blued finish with signs of age toning. Please note that the bayonet was lightly sharpened at some point. One side of the ricasso (the top of the blade directly below the grip and hilt) is clearly maker stamped “42 asw”; the other side bears the serial number "5202" and this matches the scabbard, too.
Handle:
The handle features a dark brown Bakelite grips in very good condition, showing tight fit with no cracks or repairs, secured by the correct screws. The pommel and crossguard retain their dark finish, with a functional locking button and release mechanism and there is surface rust throughout.
Scabbard:
The scabbard is serial numbered “5202,” matching the bayonet. It exhibits heavy surface oxidation throughout, but remains free of major dents or structural damage, maintaining a solid form and proper fit.
Frog:
The bayonet is accompanied by its original leather frog, which is faintly maker marked on the reverse. One lower rivet has been repaired, but the leather still remains broken. The leather shows age and wear from storage. As always, aged leather should be handled with care to preserve its integrity.
Condition:
While not the most visually appealing example due to oxidation, this is a solid, honest matching set.
