Original Imperial German WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914) Marked With Ribbon
This is an authentic Imperial German Iron Cross 2nd Class, awarded for bravery in combat during the First World War (1914–1918). The decoration features the classic magnetic iron core with a silver frame, displaying the crowned “W” (for Kaiser Wilhelm II) in the center, the date 1914 at the lower arm, and the royal crown at the top.
The reverse bears the design of the 1813 Iron Cross, with the crowned “FW” (for King Friedrich Wilhelm III) and an oak leaf cluster, marking the original year of institution. The medal comes with a original black and white ribbon, representing the Imperial colors of Prussia, but is not original to the medal. The suspension ring is faintly marked "WILM" confirming the maker is "H.R. Wilm, Berlin."
This cross remains in very good to excellent condition, showing age marks and dark patina/tarnish on the silver and crisp detail throughout. The ribbon is mint and vibrant.
