Original Imperial German WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class Marked With Ribbon (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914)
This is an original Imperial German WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914), awarded for bravery in the field during the Great War.
The medal is a traditional three-piece construction, consisting of a magnetic iron core held within a solid silver frame, with sharply defined inner and outer beading and beautifully detailed embossing to the Prussian crown, “W” (for Kaiser Wilhelm II), and the date “1914” on the obverse.
The reverse features the crowned “FW” (for Friedrich Wilhelm III), oak leaves, and the foundation date “1813.” The cross shows quite a bit of aging on both sides.
The original black-and-white ribbon remains intact and displays expected age wear, toning, and minor staining, but no major damage.
