Original Imperial German WWI M15 Infantry Pickelhaube Helmet

Chinstrap and side cockades are missing. Still retains the complete leather liner, but missing drawstring. The plate and other metal hardware display the correct subdued gray (field-gray) wartime finish. Overall in very good condition.

EXTERIOR

Shell:
The black leather body remains solid and well-formed, retaining its original finish with attractive age patina throughout. The surface shows typical crazing and finish crackling consistent with age, along with scattered areas of flaking and minor loss, particularly along the crown and side. The front visor and rear spine are secure, and the stitching along the visors remains intact.

The subdued gray M15 pattern fittings are present, including the spike with removable base, rear spine, and front Prussian eagle plate. The plate is firmly attached and retains sharp detail, exhibiting a matching matte gray finish appropriate to wartime production. The spike shows honest wear and light oxidation consistent with age.

INTERIOR

Shell:
The interior leather body remains structurally sound, showing expected age darkening and wear. No significant structural damage is noted, and the helmet maintains most of its proper shape.

Liner:
The original leather liner is complete with all fingers present. The leather shows age toning, light dryness, and service wear, but remains supple overall. The original drawstring is no longer present. Black protective tape are visible beneath the liner fingers, consistent with period construction.

Chinstrap:
Chinstrap and both side cockades are missing.

CONDITION

Overall, this M15 Pickelhaube remains a solid and honest wartime example, retaining its correct field-gray fittings and complete liner. The helmet displays desirable period wear and patina, making it a strong representative piece of an early Imperial German WWI infantry helmet.
