Original Imperial Japanese WWII Tankers Helmet Size 57
A scarce and highly desirable original Imperial Japanese WWII tanker’s helmet, designed for armored crew use. This example represents the classic Japanese tank crew headgear, constructed for both protection and communication compatibility within confined vehicle interiors.
The helmet features a brown cloth exterior shell with reinforced stitching throughout, showing excellent overall preservation. The front retains its original cloth star insignia, which remains well-defined and firmly attached. The overall appearance suggests very limited use, and the helmet presents as near unissued with only light storage wear visible.
On each side are the characteristic ear cut-outs with reinforced edges and lace-up adjustment panels, complete with original cord lacing and metal grommets. The leather chinstrap assembly is fully intact, retaining its original form with honest age patina to the leather and hardware. The end of the leather strap is a little stiff and could use some conditioner.
INTERIOR
The interior is fitted with its original leather pad liner system, which remains complete and in excellent condition. The leather pads are supple with only minor age-related stiffness and no significant damage. The internal cloth lining shows period ink stamp markings, including a larger rectangular depot-style stamp and a smaller circular inspection or size mark.
While the markings are partially obscured and not fully legible, their format and application are consistent with Imperial Japanese issue and inspection stamps typically found on armored crew equipment. These markings further support the helmet’s authenticity and add to its collector appeal.
CONDITION
Overall, this helmet is in excellent condition, especially considering its age. It shows only light wear with no major damage, and all components, including the liner, chinstrap, lacing, and insignia remain intact. The presentation strongly suggests a lightly issued or possibly unissued example.
A rarely encountered and highly collectible piece of Imperial Japanese armored crew equipment, ideal for advanced collections and display.
