Original Imperial Japanese WWII Army Type 90 Combat Helmet (Refurbished / Reworked Example)
An original Imperial Japanese WWII Army Type 90 combat helmet shell, exhibiting a well-worn and honest service appearance. The steel shell retains its original form and shows significant age, with a naturally oxidized patina, scattered surface rust, and areas of finish loss consistent with prolonged use and storage.
The exterior displays remnants of its original paint, now largely worn to a brown-toned surface with visible oxidation and handling marks throughout. A star/anchor-style front badge is present; however, it is a known reproduction addition and not original to the helmet.
INTERIOR
The helmet is fitted with a replacement leather liner and web chinstrap. The liner, while period-style in construction, is modern and has experienced damage from storage, including partial mouse activity resulting in material loss. The chinstrap is also a reproduction and shows light wear.
Visible on the interior rear skirt are stamped production numbers, which remain legible and are consistent with wartime manufacture.
CONDITION
Overall, the helmet shell itself is solid and untouched structurally, with no major dents or cracks noted. The exterior shows heavy age, oxidation, and finish wear, giving it a strong “battlefield relic” appearance. The interior components are replaced and compromised due to damage, and the front insignia is not original.
This example is best suited as a representative display piece or filler, offering an authentic WWII Japanese Type 90 shell with clear disclosure of replaced and altered components.
