Original German WWII Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge by G.H. Osang, Dresden (Damaged pin)

This is an original Luftwaffe Ground Assault Badge (Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). The badge was instituted in March 1942 to recognize Luftwaffe personnel who served in ground combat roles, including Flak crews, field divisions, and other Luftwaffe units engaged in direct ground fighting alongside Heer formations. It acknowledged repeated participation in ground assaults under combat conditions.

This example is constructed of die-stamped zinc, typical of mid- to late-war production. The obverse features the standard design, consisting of a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a swas., flying above stylized storm clouds and a prominent lightning bolt, all enclosed within an oval oakleaf wreath. Detail remains mostly well defined throughout the eagle, wreath, and lightning motif, with natural finish wear and toning consistent with age.

The reverse is stamped “G.H. OSANG / DRESDEN”, correctly positioned beneath the hinge. The barrel-style hinge and tapered pin are missing/broken off; only the round catch remains intact. The zinc body displays typical finish loss and patina associated with period use. Overall this is in good to very good condition and a desirable maker. Sold as is.
