Original German WWII NSDAP Political Leaders Flag Bearer Gorget RZM M1/102 By Frank & Reif
This is an original NSDAP Political Leaders flag bearer gorget, introduced by the Nazi Party in April 1939 and worn by individuals entrusted with carrying NSDAP unit standards. These standards were ceremonially consecrated by touching the famous “Blood Flag,” stained with the blood of those killed during the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch.
The gorget is constructed of lightweight metal and measures approximately 9 inches wide by 4½ inches high. The obverse retains most of its original gold-bronze finish and features a striking right-facing national eagle clutching a wreath and swastika, surrounded by a finely detailed oak leaf border along the lower edge. The piece displays attractive age patina and light honest wear consistent with period use.
The reverse retains its original green felt backing, which shows some scattered moth tracking and a few small holes typical of age and storage. The original attachment hooks remain intact. The gorget is RZM marked M1/102, identifying the maker as Frank & Reif of Stuttgart, a well-known manufacturer of NSDAP insignia and regalia.
The gorget is complete with its original 24-inch decorative chain, consisting of 31 alternating links featuring wreathed swastikas and national eagle motifs. Both the chain fittings and connecting plates are also RZM marked M1/102, confirming manufacture by Frank & Reif. The patina and wear of the chain match the gorget well, indicating they have remained together for a long time.
Overall, this is a very attractive and complete example of a scarce NSDAP Political Leader flag bearer gorget, representing an iconic piece of Third Reich political regalia.
