Rare Maker! Original Third Reich Early SA Dagger By Julius Ohliger
This is a rare early Model 1933 Sturmabteilung (SA) Dienstdolch produced by Julius Ohliger of Solingen, an uncommon maker that rates a 9 out of 10 for rarity on McSaar’s SA dagger rarity scale, and it may be even rarer in practice. This example has never been in a collection before and remains in very good condition overall.
The blade shows age-related wear, including graying and light spotting across both sides, with runner marks and surface scratches as expected. The acid-etched “Alles für Deutschland” motto and “Julius Ohliger Solingen” maker mark are still crisp and well-executed, though most of the original darkening has faded. Some original crossgraining is visible, though faint. The blade tip is slightly rounded. "Du sollst nicht töten" is very finely etched on an SA dagger right after the "Alles für Deutschland". The phrase "Du sollst nicht töten" translates to "You shall never kill".
The steel-based, brown anodized scabbard presents nicely, with only a couple of minor dents. Both solid nickel scabbard fittings are in excellent shape, showing just light surface wear. The lower ball is intact with one small ding. All four scabbard screws remain firmly in place and show no signs of being tampered with, though they do exhibit normal age and wear.
The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped “Nrh” for Niederrhein, the SA district. The dark brown hardwood grip is in good to very good condition, featuring one small hairline crack on the reverse, minor flake chips, and the typical pressure marks from service wear. The grip-to-crossguard fit is tight and precise—exactly what you want to see on an early SA dagger.
The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed with a tight fit, and the SA roundel fits perfectly as well, retaining approximately 85% of its original enamel with some minor corrosion.
This is a very good early SA dagger by an extremely rare and hard-to-find Solingen maker. A superb piece, ready to display in any advanced edged weapons or Third Reich collection.
