Original German WWII Spanish Cross with Swords Marked L/11 (Wilhelm Deumer)-
This is an original Spanish Cross with Swords (Spanienkreuz mit Schwertern), awarded to members of the Condor Legion and supporting Luftwaffe and Heer personnel who participated in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) on the Nationalist side.
The example is maker marked L/11 on the reverse for Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid. It is constructed of tombac and appears to have once had a silvered finish, though much of it has oxidized or darkened due to poor storage or possible ground exposure. Traces of silvering are still visible in the protected recesses and crevices around the swastikas and sword hilts. The cross displays the characteristic sharply angled arms and detailed eagles associated with Deumer’s production.
The reverse retains the original hinge, pin has broken off, and catch assembly, though corroded with age. The badge has a stable, solid structure but exhibits extensive oxidation, very minor surface pitting, and discoloration consistent with long-term environmental exposure.
While it is difficult to determine definitively whether this is the Silver or Bronze Grade, the presence of remaining silver finish in low areas strongly suggests it was originally the Silver Grade Spanish Cross with Swords, awarded for merit in combat operations.
A scarce and historically important piece, displaying honest age and character. Ideal for restoration or display as an untouched example of a Deumer produced Spanish Cross.
