Original German WWI Honor Cross for Combatants (Hindenburg Cross) – Marked “L. / NBG.” with Ribbon
An original German WWI Honor Cross for Combatants, officially instituted in 1934 to recognize front-line service during the First World War. This version was awarded specifically to combat veterans and features the crossed swords device.
The cross is of gilt-finished metal construction and displays the correct design with a laurel wreath surrounding the central dates “1914 – 1918” on the obverse. The medal shows honest age wear and marks with scattered oxidation and patina consistent with period manufacture and long-term storage. The original suspension ring and ribbon ring are intact and solid. The reverse is plainly finished, as issued, and is clearly maker marked at the upper arm: “L. / NBG.” This marking is attributed to Nürnberg (Nuremberg) production.
The medal is complete with its original black, white, and red combatant ribbon, which remains in very good condition, showing light age wear and no significant damage.
Overall, this medal and ribbon are in good condition.
