Original US WWII M1 Fixed Bail Helmet With Westinghouse Liner & USMC Helmet Cover
Offered is an original US WWII M1 fixed bale helmet complete with an original US WWII Marine Corps reversible camouflage helmet cover.
The shell features a front seam rim and swivel chinstrap bales. The shell retains a majority of its original olive drab corked finish, showing honest service wear and light surface scuffs at the top of the dome of the helmet consistent with age and handling. The web chinstrap is present and intact, with correct period hardware.
The helmet is fitted with an original USMC reversible camouflage cover. One side displays the distinctive green and brown jungle pattern intended for tropical environments, while the reverse features the brown-toned beach and island camouflage pattern. The cover retains good coloration on both sides and remains well-fitted to the shell. There is some minor staining throughout. The center seam exhibits the correct wartime chain-stitched construction, a desirable characteristic of original WWII-manufactured USMC covers (photos 23 and 24).
The helmet is fitted with an original WWII Westinghouse liner (see logo photo 12). The liner retains its original olive drab painted finish and remains exceptionally clean. The suspension system is complete and intact, with all web straps present and showing little wear. Retains the original nape/neck strap in very condition with a name written on it. The leather sweatband remains supple and decently preserved, exhibiting age-related wear and use. The leather chinstrap exhibits age-related cracking and crazing but remains attached and displays well.
Overall this set is in very good to excellent condition.
