By early 1942, government contractors struggled to meet the Army’s demand for Herringbone Twill (HBT) uniforms. Production challenges, combined with troop complaints about the original design, led to modifications aimed at simplifying manufacturing and improving functionality. These redesigned uniforms, introduced in 1942, are known to collectors as the "second pattern", while the Army officially termed them the "simplified two-piece suit."

This original second pattern HBT uniform top remains in mint to excellent condition with minimal signs of wear. All buttons and snaps are intact and fully functional. A size 36R tag is sewn into the collar.
