Original US WWII M1928-A1 Thompson SMG With Solid Steel “Dummy” Upper Receiver
This is an attractive M1928-A1 Thompson display gun assembled using original WWII components paired with a solid steel, unfinished “dummy” upper receiver. The upper receiver is machined from a solid block of steel and is non-functional, making this an ideal collector display piece without live-fire capability.
The lower frame assembly appears to be original and retains correct selector markings, including “SAFE,” “FIRE,” and “SINGLE.” The controls, trigger, and selector levers remain intact and present well. The frame shows honest surface wear consistent with age and handling.
The wood furniture consists of original factory components, including:
• Factory butt stock with sling swivel
• Correct vertical front forearm
• Original pistol grip
The wood retains a nice aged patina with scattered dings, handling marks, and finish wear consistent with service use. The butt plate shows edge wear and typical finish loss from age.
The barrel is fitted with a Cutts Compensator marked “Thompson” with patent markings visible. Notably, the compensator is missing its front sight blade. The finned barrel profile remains correct for the M1928-A1 configuration.
An original oiler is present in the butt stock trap compartment, adding a desirable original accessory to the piece. The butt plate trap door functions as intended.
The upper receiver is a solid steel non-functional display receiver and is not machined to accept internal live-fire components. It is intended strictly for collector display, reenactment, or educational purposes.
Overall, this is a very strong display example that combines original WWII Thompson components with a solid steel dummy receiver. It presents extremely well and would make an impressive addition to any WWII collection, display case, or historical exhibit.
Sold as a non-functional display piece only.
