Original German WWII Kriegsmarine U-Boat Foul Weather Rubberized Cap Size 56
An original German WWII Kriegsmarine rubberized foul weather cap, commonly associated with U-Boat and naval deck personnel operating in harsh maritime conditions. Constructed of gray rubberized waterproof material, this example features the classic wide flared brim designed to provide protection from rain, sea spray, and harsh North Atlantic weather.
The cap retains its distinctive paneled crown construction with reinforced stitched seams throughout. The interior remains fully intact with its original cloth lining and tie straps still present. A faint size marking of “56” is visible to the interior. The rubberized exterior retains an attractive wartime appearance with honest age toning and service wear consistent with prolonged field or shipboard use.
These foul weather caps were worn extensively by Kriegsmarine sailors, particularly aboard U-Boats and surface vessels, where waterproof protective clothing was essential during operations at sea. Original examples are increasingly difficult to find due to the fragile nature of the rubberized material, which was highly susceptible to deterioration over time.
Condition is very good overall considering age and material type. The cap remains structurally solid with supple rubberized fabric throughout. It does exhibit scattered surface wear, age discoloration, light staining, and a few small stress marks/scuffs from period use and long-term storage, but displays exceptionally well overall. A desirable and increasingly scarce piece of Kriegsmarine naval headgear.
