Original German WWII War Merit Cross With Swords Second Class Without Ribbon Marked “61” Rudolf Karneth & Söhne-

This is an authentic German WWII War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern), instituted on October 18, 1939 by Adolf Hitler as a successor to the non-combatant Iron Cross of earlier wars. The version with swords was awarded to military personnel for meritorious service not directly related to combat. The version without swords was typically awarded to civilians or non-combatant military personnel for outstanding contributions to the war effort.

This is an original War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords, maker marked “61” on the suspension ring, indicating manufacture by Rudolf Karneth & Söhne of Gablonz. Constructed of bronzed zinc, this example retains a dark brown patina with areas of oxidation typical of late-war production. The obverse features a wreathed swastika at the center, with pebbled Maltese-style cross arms and crossed swords, while the reverse displays the date 1939 in relief. The suspension ring remains intact and clearly stamped with the maker code “61.”

A solid and completely original example of the War Merit Cross with Swords by Rudolf Karneth & Söhne. Comes without a ribbon.
