Original Waffen SS M40 Single Decal Helmet Q66- This original Waffen SS M40 Single Decal Helmet, boasting a captivating history, presents a striking blend of authenticity and character. Retaining approximately 85% of its original factory-applied dark field-gray texture finish amidst scrapes, scratches, and surface rust concentrated at the helmet's crown, it exudes a tangible connection to its wartime origins.
The SS decal, which has flaked off, appears to have some splotch of dark green paint cover the decal during the war, reveals the outline and remnants of its Quist origin, with approximately 20% of the decal still discernible beneath the paint. Intriguingly, traces of the decal peek through tiny cracks in the painted surface, adding to its mystique.
Stamped with the batch number IN226, this helmet aligns with Quist's production of Waffen SS M40 helmets in size 66, further enhancing its historical authenticity.
The leather liner, while dry and displaying signs of age with some broken fingers, remains attached to the original wartime zinc band. Notably, an original drawstring is absent. A missing chinstrap has been substituted with an original US WWII M1 helmet liner leather chinstrap, adding a unique touch to its narrative.
Internally, the helmet retains much of its original factory paint, underscoring its integrity.
