Offered here is a attractive 1-Liter German Pre-WWII military presentation beer stein, dedicated to Wachtmeister van Kampen by the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps of a German Observation Training Detachment (Beobachtungslehrabteilung). The Beobachtungslehrabteilung was a specialized training and experimental unit. It belonged to the artillery branch and served as a test bed for artillery reconnaissance and surveillance methods.
The upper inscription reads "DEM SCHEIDENDEN KAMERADEN – Wachtm. van Kampen," translating to "To Our Departing Comrade – Wachtmeister van Kampen." The lower inscription reads "GEWIDMET VOM UNTEROFFIZIERKORPS DER BEOBACHTUNGSLEHRABTLG.", translating to "Presented by the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps of the Observation Training Detachment."
The stein is constructed of glazed ceramic with a traditional hinged pewter lid. The pewter thumb lift and hinge assembly remain intact. The ceramic body has an embossed 1-liter capacity marking near the handle. The inside (not pictured) is clean with slight discoloration.
The exterior retains its attractive original appearance, with the military artwork and inscriptions remaining bright and defined. There is fine age related crazing throughout the ceramic glaze, along with minor surface wear and discoloration consistent with age. The pewter lid exhibits a pleasing aged gray patina.
