Unissued Original German WWII Luftwaffe AK39 #Fl.23235-1 2nd Model Wrist Compass (Armbandkompass) S/N 404032 *U.S. Veteran Bringback*
This is an original unissued German World War II Luftwaffe AK39 (Armbandkompass 1939) wrist compass, second model, complete with its original leather wrist strap. Developed in 1939, the AK39 was issued to Luftwaffe (Air Force) pilots, aircrew, navigators, and Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) as a compact navigation instrument. The later Fl.23235-1 variant features the transparent base and sighting aids, allowing for more accurate navigation and bearing measurements.
The compass is a "U.S. Veteran Bringback* by Don Punch and has remained in his collection ever since. Although it is not named, it was acquired directly from the veteran's family as part of a small collection of his wartime souvenirs, providing excellent provenance.
The compass housing is free of cracks or chips and retains an attractive finish. The liquid inside is still present. The plastic cover shows typical yellowing along with light surface marks. The dial and magnetic needle function properly and rotate freely. The original leather wrist strap is complete and supple. The aluminum buckle remains intact and functions as intended. The reverse is marked "AK-39 Fl.23235-1 404032".
Condition is excellent.
