Original German WWII Mother’s Cross in Bronze With Ribbon
This is an original Mother’s Cross in Bronze, awarded to German mothers who bore four to five children in service to the state. Instituted in December 1938, the award recognized motherhood and family contribution during the period.
This example features a bronze-finished cross with blue and white enamel panels on the obverse arms, centered by the gilt roundel bearing the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” surrounding the swas. The blue and white enamel shows some aging, but it remains intact and vibrant. The bronze finish has darkened over time showing honest age and patina.
The reverse is correctly inscribed “16 Dezember 1938”, commemorating the institution date of the award. Some minor aging on the reverse. The original ribbon is vibrant with dark stains and discoloration. There is a period safety pin also attached to the end of the ribbon. This example is in very good condition.
