Unissued Original German WWII DAF Musicians Shoulder Swallows Nest Set
This is an original unissued matching pair of German WWII musicians’ shoulder “swallow’s nests” intended for the DAF (Deutsche Arbeitsfront German Labour Front). These decorative uniform insignia were worn in pairs on the shoulders by members of DAF musical units.
Each piece is constructed of black wool with alternating vertical bands of silver aluminum tress. A wide band of matching decorative silver tress follows the curved lower edge, forming the distinctive swallow’s-nest shape. The silver tress remains bright and displays only minimal age.
The reverse of each piece is finished with black to dark-gray cotton backing and retains all five metal attachment hooks. One of the two still bears its original RZM paper tag, marked “Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP,” with manufacturer code A4/27 and control number 006173. The other piece is without a tag.
This set appears never to have been issued or worn and remains in near mint to mint condition. An attractive and well-preserved matching pair, sold only as a set.
