Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Helmet Q64 This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 single decal combat helmet, produced by Quist and marked Q64, indicating a size 64 shell. The lot number is present on the rear interior skirt and matches expected Quist production for this period.
Helmet Exterior
The helmet retains its factory-applied textured blue-gray combat paint, showing normal service wear, light abrasions, and scattered spots of rust patina, typical of years of long term storage. The Luftwaffe second model eagle decal remains in excellent condition, with strong detail and only moderate wear. The decal is textbook for Quist, properly sized and positioned.
All three rivets are original and firmly set, with untouched washers inside.
Helmet Interior
The helmet features its original M31 leather liner, which shows even wear and age toning but remains fully intact. The liner has its original wartime drawstring, still in place. The leather fingers are supple for their age and show no signs of post war replacement or tampering.
Chinstrap
A notable feature of this example is its early pigskin chinstrap, complete with the correct aluminum buckle and aluminum hardware. The strap shows honest wear and light cracking typical of pigskin straps, but it remains complete and fully attached. Early pigskin straps with aluminum fittings are becoming increasingly difficult to find paired with untouched helmets. Chinstrap is not marked.
Overall
This is a solid, untouched mid-war Luftwaffe M40 retaining its original paint, decal, pigskin chinstrap, and liner, exactly what collectors look for in an honest, unmessed with example. A desirable helmet with excellent originality throughout. This M40 Luftwaffe helmet is in very good to excellent condition.
