RARE! Original German WWII Anti-Partisan Badge In Silver By C. E. Juncker Type 2.1

Introduced in January 1944, the Anti-Partisan Badge recognized participation in operations against partisan forces in German occupied territory. It was awarded in Bronze, Silver, and Gold, with the Silver grade generally requiring 50 qualifying combat days for ground personnel. Its sword and Hydra design symbolized the regime’s struggle against partisan resistance.

Original examples are sought after for their relative scarcity, distinctive design, and variations in construction and attachment hardware. For specialist collectors, an identifiable Juncker variant with surviving silver finish and undamaged hardware adds further interest. Its late introduction also meant a comparatively short wartime period of issue

A rare original Type 2.1 Anti-Partisan Badge (Bandenkampfabzeichen) in Silver, attributed to C. E. Juncker of Berlin. This example features the scarce thin needle-pin configuration, crisp detail, and approximately 40% of its original silver wash remaining.

Constructed from die-struck zinc alloy with a silver-washed finish, the obverse depicts a downward-pointing broadsword with a sunwheel swastika at its circular crossguard, thrust into a five-headed Hydra above a skull and crossbones. Oak leaves and acorns frame the upper portion of the design, while three cutouts between the serpents accentuate the intricate openwork.

The reverse features a semi-hollow, scooped construction with a long barrel hinge, soldered flat-wire catch, and round-wire needle pin, which is not bent. The attachment hardware remains intact, with no damage or repairs. These features correspond to the recognized Juncker Type 2.1 configuration.

The surviving silver finish highlights the raised details against the exposed zinc, giving the badge a distinctive aged appearance. A scarce example with considerable appeal to collectors of original German WWII awards and Juncker manufacturing variants. Overall the badge is in very good to excellent condition.

Collector’s Note: The thin needle-pin configuration is a particularly desirable feature of this variant and is less commonly encountered than the broader, fluted or “banjo”-style pin found on other Juncker examples.
