Original German WWII DRL Sports Badge in Bronze by Wernstein Jena (Damaged catch)This is an original Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen (DRL) Sports Badge in Bronze, manufactured by Wernstein, Jena. The badge features the interlaced “DRL” monogram surmounted by an oak leaf wreath, with a swas. at the base and the standard design authorized by the Reich Sports Office after 1937.The reverse is clearly marked “D.R.G.M. 35269” and “WERNSTEIN JENA”, confirming the registered design number and the maker. The bronze level was awarded for achievement in physical fitness and athletic proficiency.
There was a silver grade that was awarded for enhanced athletic achievement and higher standards of physical fitness beyond the basic bronze level.Constructed of tombac or zinc alloy with a original bronze finish and the badge shows honest age toning and surface wear from handling. The original hinge and vertical pin are intact, but the catch is missing / broken off. Its very possible this could be repaired / replaced.Overall condition is very good except for the missing catch.
