Original German WWII Heer M38 EM/NCO Overseas Cap (Tailored/Modified)
This is an original German WWII M38 Enlisted/NCO overseas cap, constructed of fieldgray wool. It is approximately a size 56/57.
The front retains its original handstitched eagle and cockade insignia. Both display age and wear consistent with the cap. The wool itself is in excellent condition. Little to no flaws except for slight discoloration.
One of the more interesting features is the period modification to the interior. The cap's original cotton sweatband has been tailored/modified with the addition of a leather sweatband. The leather shows honest wear consistent with use. Additionally, a period safety pin inside the cap is being used to pinch the center of the cap together, creating the distinctive, tighter profile seen in the photographs. Lastly, there is a last name penned on the interior (photos 9-11).
