Original German WWII M40 Single Decal Heer Camouflaged Helmet NS64
EXTERIOR
Original German WWII M40 Heer (Army) single decal combat helmet manufactured by Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke (NS), with a size 64 shell. The exterior features a heavily worn three tone camouflage finish that appears to have been applied by hand with a brush. Scattered scuffs, oxidation, and paint loss throughout are consistent with extensive service use. Faded remnants of the Heer eagle decal remain visible beneath the camouflaged paint underneath left ventilation hole.
INTERIOR
The helmet retains its original leather liner, which shows wear consistent with use and age. A replacement shoelace serves as the drawstring and is not original to the liner. The original leather chinstrap remains present and is unmarked. The interior of the shell has been repainted, most likely after the war, although the reason is unknown.
The helmet may have been stored upside down, allowing moisture to collect inside and cause rusting to the interior. The NS64 maker and shell size marking remains partially legible; the lot number cannot be read.
CONDITION
Overall fair condition, with substantial exterior wear, scattered oxidation, and fading and loss to the camouflage finish and decal. The interior repaint and replacement drawstring are noted above. An affordable example of an M40 Heer camouflaged helmet with a well used appearance that displays nicely.
