Original German WWII NSDAP/National Double-Sided Flag/Banner with Period Modification 175cm x 94cm (69" x 37")This is an original German WWII NSDAP/National double-sided flag or banner measuring approximately 175cm x 94cm (69" x 37").
The flag is constructed of a red cotton field with separately applied white roundels machine sewn to both sides. Each roundel features a screenprinted black swas. One end has a sewn tunnel/hoist end designed to accommodate a suspension rope, rod, or pole.
There is an interesting modification to the banner that we believe was period done. A rope was sewn directly into the banner just below the original hoist end. The fabric was then folded over and sewn to create a narrower tunnel or sleeve for the rope. This appears to have been a functional period modification, likely made to accommodate a different method of hanging or displaying the banner. See photo 8 for additional details.
The red field retains strong, vibrant color. The white roundels exhibit light age toning and scattered minor staining, while both black swas. remain dark and sharply defined. Additional scattered marks are present on the red field. Despite this honest age and storage wear, the flag remains structurally sound and in very good condition, with no significant holes or tears noted; there is some slight fraying in one area, see last photo for details.
