Original German WWII Wasserschutzpolizei (Water Protection Police) 1st Pattern Gilt Brass Cap Insignia

The Wasserschutzpolizei was responsible for policing Germany’s rivers, canals, ports, and coastal waterways, including major maritime centers such as Hamburg, Bremen, and Kiel. First Pattern insignia such as this example were worn on visor caps by Water Police personnel during the early years of the Third Reich, before being phased out in favor of more standardized police insignia by the late 1930s.

This authentic cap insignia is constructed of heavy brass and retains remnants of its original gold gilt finish. The obverse displays well-defined detail throughout the eagle and oakleaf wreath. The reverse shows the original horizontal prongs for visor cap attachment and they're nicely intact. The piece exhibits natural age toning and a few spots of oxidation consistent with age and possible period use. Overall, it remains in very good condition.
