Original German WWII M35 Luftwaffe Double Decal Helmet ET62

This is an original German WWII M35 double decal Luftwaffe steel combat helmet manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerk Thale A.G., bearing the maker code ET62.

EXTERIOR
The helmet retains a pleasing amount of its original smooth Luftwaffe dark blue/gray factory finish with honest combat and storage wear throughout, but appears to have been repainted with Luftwaffe light gray/blue parade color. Areas of finish loss, scattered oxidation, and surface scratches are consistent with age and field use, giving the helmet an attractive untouched appearance.

The original 1st Model Luftwaffe eagle decal with "snake leg" remains approximately 70–75% intact, retaining strong detail despite moderate wear. The national tricolor shield is also still present but heavily worn, with approximately 20–25% of the original decal remaining. Surviving double decal Luftwaffe helmets have become increasingly difficult to find, making this a desirable example for collectors.

INTERIOR
The original aluminum liner band remains firmly installed with all three original split pins undisturbed. The dark brown leather liner is complete and remains soft and supple, exhibiting honest service wear with minor age-related cracking around the edges. The original drawstring is still present. Faint period ink markings are visible on both the leather liner and the interior of the shell, adding additional character and originality. Missing a chinstrap.

The shell is clearly stamped ET62, with lot number 3238, confirming production by Eisenhüttenwerk Thale. The inside dome has a white ink stamped unit marking, but is unreadable.

The M35 was Germany's first standard combat helmet introduced prior to World War II and was originally issued with double decals consisting of the Luftwaffe eagle on the left side and the national tricolor shield on the right. In March 1940, regulations ordered the discontinuation of the national shield, making surviving wartime double decal helmets increasingly sought after.

CONDITION
Overall, this is an attractive and untouched ET62 Double Decal Luftwaffe M35 helmet featuring both original decals, an original complete liner with drawstring, period ink markings, and a shell displaying honest wartime wear. It would make an excellent addition to any advanced German helmet or Luftwaffe collection.
