Original German Pre-WWII Early M33 SS Dagger By Richard Herder
This is an original early-production German M33 SS dagger manufactured by Richard Abr. Herder of Solingen. The dagger is complete with its original black-painted steel scabbard.
The blade remains in very good condition but displays honest wear from use and age, including scattered surface marks, light scratches, and areas of discoloration. The obverse bears a nicely etched “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” motto, which remains clear and well defined. The reverse features the early Richard Abr. Herder circular maker trademark.
The black wooden grip is especially attractive and fits tightly against the nickel crossguards. It retains the inset nickel eagle and SS runic roundel. The roundel exhibits some age-related corrosion and verdigris around its border, while the grip itself shows only light handling wear without any major cracks or chips. The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped with the Roman numeral “I,” denoting SS District (Munich).
The original black-painted scabbard displays substantial finish loss, scratches, and surface wear from period use and age. Despite the wear, the scabbard remains solid and complete. Both nickel fittings are intact, along with the suspension ring and undamaged lower ball. All four scabbard screws appear unturned and retain their original installation, but one might have been turned.
Overall, this is an excellent and honest early Richard Herder SS dagger. The beautiful black grip, district-marked crossguard, clear blade etching, untouched scabbard screws, and naturally worn original scabbard give it considerable character and collector appeal.
