Original German WWII Reichs Arbeitsdienst (RAD) Labor Service EM "Robin Hood" Cap Dated 1937 Size 56/57The Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD), or Reich Labor Service, was a pre-WWII organization established in 1935 to provide compulsory labor service for young men and later women in Germany.
This Original German WWII RAD Enlisted Men's cap is constructed from the organization’s distinctive earth brown wool. It is often referred to as a "Robin Hood" Cap due to its shape. The front displays the correct metal RAD insignia, featuring the organization’s spade emblem and national symbol surrounded by wheat sheaves. The crown is traditionally worn with a sunken appearance but can be pushed outward if desired. The black piping indicates it was for a EM (silver piping was for a Field Grade Officer and General Grade officers had gold).
The cap is presently somewhat misshapen from age and storage and would benefit from being placed on a proper hat form to restore its intended profile. There are a few small holes on the top indicating the pleats were most likely pinned together at one time.
The interior sweatband is discolored and there is a small area that is damaged. There is a faintly visible ink stamping on the upper interior.
The cap remains in very good overall condition.
