Original U.S. WWII Black Enameled Steel Canteen Dated 1942 With Canvas Cover
This is an original black steel canteen with cover. The canteen is an early wartime black enameled steel example and is nicely marked on the bottom “U.S. / S.M.CO. / 1942.” It retains a good amount of its original glossy black enamel finish, with scattered areas of finish loss, scratches, and exposed metal from period use and age. The original black screw cap (without cork seal) is present along with its metal retaining chain, which shows some surface oxidation.
The olive drab canvas canteen cover remains in very good condition, showing honest service wear, age, and some scattered staining and discoloration. The front retains both original Lift-the-Dot style fasteners, while the reverse has the original wire belt hooks and webbing reinforcement. The stitching appears solid throughout. The cover is very faintly marked and we believe the cover is most likely from 1944/1945 timeframe.
Overall in very good condition with normal age and service wear. Please refer to photos for actual condition.
