Rare! Original U.S. WWII Early St. Clair Low Pressure M1 Helmet Liner With Green Painted Interior & White Rayon Suspension
This is an original and scarce U.S. WWII St. Clair low-pressure M1 helmet liner. Early St. Clair liners are highly sought after by collectors, particularly examples retaining the uncommon factory olive drab painted interior.
The liner retains approximately 95% of its original exterior factory paint and about 90% of the original green paint inside. The interior is fitted with its original first-pattern white rayon suspension, complete with the desirable rectangular steel washers, along with the original white rayon neckband. The yellow St. Clair ink dome stamp is still visible inside the crown.
The original leather chinstrap is present but broken, and the headband is no longer present.
There is a crack on one side of the liner that has been covered with masking tape by a previous owner. The crack does not appear to extend completely through the shell, and the tape could likely be removed carefully if desired. Aside from this issue, the liner displays very well and remains an excellent example of one of the harder-to-find early M1 liner variations.
Overall, this is a scarce early-production St. Clair liner that would make an outstanding addition to any advanced U.S. WWII helmet collection.
