The poncho retains its integral hood and metal snap fasteners. It also retains all eight metal grommets positioned around the outer edges. These features allowed the poncho to be worn as rain protection or used as an improvised shelter or ground cover.
This example is nicely marked on the lighter camouflage side with a partially visible U.S.M.C. contract marking and the stamped numbers “214 23” on the beach side.
The material remains slightly pliable, but is mostly stiff from many years of storage and should be handled carefully. Aside from the stiffness, the poncho displays very little evidence of use and remains in near-mint to excellent condition. The camouflage colors remain attractive and well preserved on both sides.
A very desirable and well-preserved example of iconic U.S.M.C. WWII Pacific Theater camouflage equipment.
