Unissued Original U.S. WWII AAF Cloth Map Philippine Series No. C-41 (Mindora Island), No. C-42 (Samar Island)
This is an original unissued U.S. WWII Army Air Forces cloth escape and evasion map from the Philippine Series, produced for use by American aircrews operating throughout the Pacific Theater. Printed on lightweight rayon cloth, these maps were designed to withstand repeated folding and handling in the field. Unlike traditional paper maps, they could be compactly carried and were far less susceptible to tearing or damage from moisture.
The map features No. C-41 Mindoro Island on one side and No. C-42 Samar Island on the reverse. It was prepared under the direction of the Commanding General, Army Air Forces, by the Aeronautical Chart Service and Army Map Service, U.S. Army. The series dates to 1944, with known examples of this particular pairing dated April 1944.
Both sides are printed in color and provide detailed wartime geographical information, including cities, coastlines, islands, roads, railways, waterways and terrain features.
This example is in near mint condition, remaining clean and well preserved with vibrant printing throughout. It shows very little yellowing, and no evidence of actual field use.
