Offered here is a attractive 1-Liter German Pre-WWII Pioneer and Transport Troops in Munich ("Pionier und Verkehrstruppen Verein e.V. München") commemorative beer stein, dated December 21, 1940. It appears this is a Veteran Presentation beer stein.
The oval border reads "Pionier u. Verkehrstruppen" (Pioneers / Combat Engineers and Transport/Traffic Troops) ~ "Verein e.V. München" (Registered Association of Munich). The Munich Child (Münchner Kindl) at the very top of the crest sits the traditional coat of arms of the city of Munich—a small monk holding a book. The center contains symbol elements representing both Pioneers and Transport units.
The stein is constructed of glazed ceramic with a traditional hinged pewter lid. The pewter thumb lift and hinge assembly remain intact. The ceramic body has an embossed 1-liter capacity marking near the handle. The inside is clean with slight discoloration.
The exterior retains its attractive original appearance, with the military artwork and inscriptions remaining bright and defined. There is fine age related crazing throughout the ceramic glaze, along with minor surface wear and discoloration consistent with age. The pewter lid exhibits a pleasing aged gray patina. The top of the lid features an engraved monogram surrounded by a decorative border, along with the date "21.12.40" (December 21, 1940). The inscription appears to read "Zum 45. Ehe-Jubiläum" (For the 45th Wedding Anniversary), suggesting that the stein was presented to commemorate this occasion.
