Original German WWII Pith Helmet Eagle Shield Marked “KW”
Heer Tropical Helmet Shields were introduced in late 1940, with the impending German entrance in the North African campaign, tropical uniforms, headgear, and equipment that were quickly developed and issued in time for Deutsches Afrika Korps (DAK) personnel arrival in Tripoli in February 1941. One of the new headgear items introduced was the tropical pith helmet which was based on the design of the earlier Kriegsmarine pith helmets.
This original eagle shield does retain some of its original finish, with surface oxidation, and finish loss in various areas consistent with age and use. The reverse shows 2 out of 3 correct integral prongs for attachment to the helmet. The reverse is marked "KW" indicating it was produced by Karl Wurster.
Overall in decent condition.
