Original German WWII Heer (Army) EM/NCO Steel Belt Buckle & Leather Tab by M.S.&S. 1940This is an original German WWII Heer (Army) enlisted/NCO steel belt buckle and leather tab manufactured by M.S.&S. (Matthias Salcher & Söhne). Both are nicely marked and dated 1940.
This stamped steel buckle retains trace amounts of original early war fieldgray painted finish on the front; considerable amount on the reverse side. There's visible amounts of oxidation and rust patina from age and service use. The front features the standard Army design: the national eagle with folded wings clutching a swas., surrounded by a detailed oakleaf wreath and the raised motto “GOTT MIT UNS.”
The leather tab is somewhat unusual in that it is constructed of pebbled grained leather and is maker marked on the reverse rather than the front, as more commonly encountered. The tab remains securely attached and displays honest age related wear. Some of the original stitching is missing, and there is a small hole visible on the front of the tab (see Photo 5). Despite these minor issues, the leather remains solid and retains clear markings.
Aside from the few flaws, the set remains in very good condition.
