Original German WWII Mother’s Cross in Bronze (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter) -- Damaged
An original German WWII Mother’s Cross in Bronze, awarded to German mothers in recognition of raising four or five children in accordance with the award criteria established in 1938.
This example features a bronze-finished cross with blue and white enamel panels on the obverse arms, centered by the gilt roundel bearing the inscription “DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER” surrounding the swastika. A majority of the blue and white enamel is missing and/or chipped, consistent with use and improper long-term storage. The bronze finish has darkened over time showing honest age and patina.
The reverse is correctly inscribed “16 Dezember 1938”, commemorating the institution date of the award. No ribbon is present.
